English Literature and Language explores the interface between language and literature through an up-to- date and thorough introduction to the study of a wide variety of texts. The offered texts will study literature in its socio-cultural and historical context. The modules are designed to make students familiar with tools from Literature and English Language studies, to analyze critically a range of spoken and written discourses and contemporary modes of communication. The course is designed to make students consider social and cultural identities, and thus, provides substantial scope for reflection and personal development.

The MA English program derives its uniqueness from being a merger of two distinct but related fields which are literature and linguistics. The ultimate goal is to lay down a solid foundation on which the students can build later on, in the field(s) of their own choice. The program is designed to allow the students to go through comprehensive and rigorous coursework simultaneously in literature and linguistics. The students can also acquaint themselves with the basic theories and practices of ELT, by taking a couple of introductory courses in this field. Hence, the literary, scientific, theoretical and pedagogical skills of the student are sharpened at the same time.

About the Programme:

The program extends up to 4 semesters over the period of two years. Each course earns the student 3 credit hours which enables them to accumulate 66 credit hours in total. Students have an option to write a thesis at the end of their coursework.
