International Conference on Medical Education
International Conference on Medical Education (ICME) a regular event organised by RARE is an enduring and credible platform for health professionals across the globe. It provides experience, modernises knowledge and publicises latest advances as discovered from subject experts and serves this purpose to help bridge the gap between the developed and the developing nations.
ICME 2009 & 2010
RARE organised the first ICME in 2009 (Jan. 25-27) in Islamabad, Pakistan under the umbrella of Riphah International University. The conference was endorsed by Higher Education Commission Pakistan (HEC) and Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC). The basic objective of this conference was to create a forum for educators and health professionals to present their research studies, exchange ideas and get acquainted with innovations in curriculum planning, teaching and learning, taking place world-over. ICME 2009 has been a great success as it not only attracted several leading medical educationists but also generated a lot of interest among the educators in medical and health professions.
The trends attended in this conference set the pace for the second conference, held in Abu Dhabi, UAE (Dec. 4-7, 2010). The objectives of this conference were to provide an international environment for learning and professional development, to identify international standards and prepare health professions education leaders to face challenges in educating health professionals of the future and to promote collaboration and strengthen liaison among medical schools, internationally. ICME 2010, again been a huge success where a stimulating scientific program and key note lectures and pre-conference facilitators by leading experts in medical education attracted more than 350 participants from Pakistan and Middle East.
Further expanding the horizon the third conference in the series is now planned for October 2013, in Mauritius with the theme 'Health Professions Education: Aspiring for Excellence'. The main objective is to maintain excellence by building a culture of educational scholarship. The conference will cover a wide variety of topics including ethics and professionalism in medical practice, curriculum design, faculty development, innovations in medical education, assessment and evaluation, quality assurance and accreditation and other issues of current importance and interest. The event aims to bring experts together of wide experience as educators, academic leaders, curriculum reviewers, editors and contributors to the existing current trends in the field of medical education.
